249 years of jigsaw puzzles
In 1767, John Spilsbury was teaching his students geography, he took a map of Europe and adhered it to a board of flat hardwood. then he took a fine saw and cut up the borders of the countries creating the first jigsaw puzzle. Spilsbury would scramble up all the pieces and give the pieces to his students to put back together.
In 1865, the jigsaw was invented to aid in cutting out curved lines which created the first inter-locking puzzles. Later in 1880 the first jigsaw puzzle was made for children was built. It's name was, "The Smashed Locomotive."
It's neat to see how puzzles originated and how the have changed. Thank you for reading and keep solving puzzles.
