Huge hidden time penalty from using Hints? (up to thousands of seconds)

    Hello everyone,

I just discovered the site yesterday and I'm really enjoying the Numberlinks puzzles! However, I ran into a very frustrating issue and I wanted to ask if this is a known bug or an undocumented feature.

Being a new player, I used the "Hint" button multiple times on two puzzles. I was completely unaware that there is a massive hidden time penalty attached to it. As a result, I got hit with astronomically high solve times that have completely ruined my starting average time stats:
    • 7584 seconds on today's 9x9 puzzle (ID #3411225)
    • 6452 seconds on my only 10x10 puzzle (")solved(") yesterday (May 21).

Is this an intentional penalty for using hints? If so, wouldn't it be fair to have a UI warning before someone clicks it? Or is it a timer glitch?

I have already sent a polite email to support (admin@puzzlebaron.com) with a screenshot, but why not posting here as well, in case other new players fall into the same trap.

@Admin: If you see this, could you please do me a huge favor and revert those two specific puzzles back to "Unsolved"? I don't care about keeping the points (or everything related to those 2 specific puzzles), at all, I just want my average solving time to reflect reality.

Thanks in advance for any help or info!
