Based on data from more than 20,000 solved puzzles in our first week online, we've made some slight updates this evening to how puzzles are scored:
8x8 1 star puzzles - no change
10x10 1 star puzzles - max points decreased by 20%
10x10 2 star puzzles - max points decreased by 10%
12x12 2 star puzzles - no change
14x14 3 star puzzles - max points increased by 35%
These changes were made in order to better reflect the amount of time (on average) required to solve each puzzle category (without hints). We will continue to tweak the scoring algorithm as we accumulate more data but I expect future changes to be much more incremental than this one.
