  • Letter distribution

Relatively new to the site. One thing I’ve noticed is instances where two (in one case I’ve seen, three!) letters from the same clue map into the same word of the quotation. This is very bad form and in some cases can make the puzzle impossible to solve (if you don’t recognize either the clue or the word in the grid, you have no way of working them out from other clues).

Any good human constructor would avoid this, so I assume the distribution of letters between quotation and clues is being done by automated software. In which case the software should be modified, or at the very least every puzzle should be reviewed by a human editor and tweaked if necessary, to make sure the letters of a clue are scattered into different places in the quotation, and vice versa.
