Can you explain the different prefilled squares?

You bet! A prefilled cell can be either:
      • Water (self-explanatory)
      • A ship's bow or stern (i.e. an end-piece of a ship, meaning that ship must be at least 2 cells big). The "pointy end" of an end-piece must have water beside it.
      • A ship's middle section (i.e. a square, which represents a middle section of a ship, which means that ship must be at least 3 cells big since 1-cell and 2-cell ships have no middle sections, and it can be aligned either horizontally or vertically, at least at first)
      • A single-cell ship (i.e. a circle), which is a self-contained single-cell ship (referred to as a submarine) and which you can immediately surround with water.

Any chance you can set up the hints and checks to just show one error at a time? That way, you can try to work it out without getting hit with hundreds of penalty points. I tend to just start over. I do love Battleship though - played it “back in the day”!

Often if I ask for hints or a check, and I go back and get it fixed, it won’t submit the result - it’s just stuck and I have to exit the puzzle.

Hmm, strange - the next time you see this happen could you email me a screenshot of the finished puzzle that won't submit? I want to try to replicate this issue. Thanks!

What's with the "Advanced analysis: cell E8 must be a ship segment." hint? That tells you nothing, and doesn't help teach how to solve the puzzles. There seems to be a lot of guesswork and fill-in until it fails patterning, which isn't really logic anymore

It's a limitation of the hint server's ability to dynamically explain certain advanced deduction methods in human-readable English. I'll take another crack at this in the next update and see if I can make any improvements here.

Would it be possible to drag and mark multiple water spaces like numbergrids? Also would be great if the regular left click was water instead of ship since there are more water spaces than ship and holding ctrl would mark ship sections also like numbergrids.

Thank you for the new games, Battleships is my favorite!

I am frequently getting this error. I can open other tabs and load videos and things just fine so I don't think the issue is on my end. There doesn't seem to be a way past this error without just reloading the page and redoing the puzzle (which does always submit without an issue), but the time spent doing it the first go around is counted against me. Any fix for this on your end? Or is this just a me issue?
(For clarification, the puzzle simply isn't submitting when completed so I tend to click "check" in the hopes that somehow it fixes it. I've done that dozens of times now without success, though, so I'm not sure why I keep trying lol)

Hmmm, interesting - thanks for posting the screenshot! I've made some alterations to the code now that should provide a bit more information the next time this happens for you - if you see an error message again at the end of the puzzle, please post it here (or email to puzzlebaron@gmail.com) and hopefully that will provide some more information about what is happening here.

Some questions in the meantime... does this happen when you take a very, very long time to solve a puzzle by any chance? I'm wondering if it might have something to do with session expiration.
