What is the Crypto Twilight Zone?
Some say it was a sociological experiment initiated by a madman... others claim it all started one day when the Cryptograms server got struck by a green bolt of lightning in the middle of a solar eclipse... still others say it was just a dumb bug in the code that allowed people to add wild and zany comments to an ever-enlarging comments thread attached to a puzzle that never should have existed, but nevertheless grew to become so beloved by the community that the administrator was eventually forbidden by all and sundry to ever remove it from the site.
At this late date, the real truth of the matter is likely to remain forever enshrouded by mystery.
Whichever backstory you choose to believe, the Crypto Twilight Zone is a liminal space that exists between the cracks on this site. For a time, there was a special method to gain entry that was known only to a chosen few. Today, it is far more difficult to find, but it is still there, lurking in the code, waiting to be discovered by the occasional lucky cryptogram solver...
