Question about points

Hello,
I'm new to the game. Why do I get a lot fewer points when I solve a puzzle really fast than when I step out for a bit and come back and solve it, say 600 seconds later?

There are three basic starting point levels, each of which go down based on time. Easy the max you can get is 150, Average the max is 300, and Difficult the max is 450. So the one you stepped out for 600 seconds must have been a more difficult crypto that the one you solved really fast.
