This is still my second week here. I was wondering if there is a place to check the standings in the tournaments? Or do we have to wait till the end of the month to see how everyone did?
Silence.......
Thank you for your response. I found it! Gotta lot of work to do catch you guys! You guys are quick!. Hadnt done these in 20 years. Hopefully ill be able to Hang when i get back up to speed.
Most of us guys (and gals) have been playing regularly for several years now, and you'll find that the more you play the faster you will get. But the basic idea is just to enjoy the time you spend solving! It's difficult not to compare yourself with others, especially playing in competition, but it pays off to make that effort! For the most part, Bansai wil ALWAYS be faster than anybody else....!! And some folks just have a lot of free time to spend here. Don't let that get you side-tracked from having FUN
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how often the all-time rankings updates? I know it isn't instant, but is it hourly, twice a day, or once a day? I've noticed new players with over a hundred puzzles solved who still have "place" as their ranking, which is code for not having played any puzzles yet.
If you've spent years doing newspaper cryptos, I did, it's such a wonderful thing to find this site. When we first went on-line, one of the first things I looked for was a place like this, and I didn't find one. When I checked again years later. I found this place and it's exactly what I was looking for.
I'm probably flattering myself, but I consider myself a second stringer. I'll never be one of the best, but because I spend lots of time here, I can usually make the top 20. It's good for my ego.
I have a good overall solving percentage (99%), but my times suck. So of course I am only interested in the solving percentage competition. Will probably never make the top 20 in the other categories.
I just keep playing cause it's fun. And the most rewarding puzzles I have ever done have been my lowest-scoring ones (sometimes I get like 10 points cause it took me so long). It's a neat thing to "salvage" a puzzle that seems unsolvable.
