need some help

so lately i have been trying to learn how to solve cryptogram .. and i really havent solved but a one or two .. i am not quite good at them but i am trying to learn.
so can you guys help me to know how to solve them correctly and fast ? also, do you have any books that i can read that will teach me how to solve them ?
i appreciate it if you help me because im trying to get away from video gaming and watching tv.

ravate don't give up! I started many years ago and Ithought I was pretty good until I found this website. It took me a long time to get almost 100 percent every month and right now I got a 98.7 solving percentage, You could also play for fun and your scores will go up. I admire those people that play every month and only get less than 50 percent and don't give up, good luck

Don't be discouraged ravate - this site is a bit challenging for beginners, because they randomly mix the easy quotes with the really difficult ones! You might want to practice with a book of easy ones, like the "Cryptogram a Day" series...this will allow you to get used to spotting patterns and letter frequencies. Eye training is important in solving cryptos, and it will become second nature if you keep trying. All the best...umom

need some help

Cravate, don't be discouraged. The first time I remember even looking at my ranking, I think it was 3894 or so, and I joined this sight in 2011 but played as a guest for a year or so then started competing seriously in 2012. I had done the cryptograms in the newspaper because my dad taught me when I was a kid, and I actually thought I was pretty good just because I could solve them in ten or fifteen minutes. Wow, did I wake up when I found this sight. At first I didn't even feel worthy of competing with these folks, but then again, I am very competitive by nature and won't do anything halfway. Now I just have fun and keep my brain working, but I still desire to improve my ranking, speed, and especially my success rate. Just keep trying, and it will come. Don't expect too much too fast. I usually find I get stuck for a while and then suddenly improve significantly, then hit another plateau, and so on. Be patient, and you'll get there, but most of all, enjoy yourself.

Hi Damsel, thanks 4 asking, I do need help. 4 some reason I have like 2 accounts apparently, 1 says abracadabra, the other abracadebra14, how do I know which one to use now or which one is the original one which should b abracadabra. been trying to resolve this problem. Can u help me?

Abracadebra, if you look in the members list, it shows that abracadebra14 has played 0 games. You should only use the abracadebra screen name if you want to keep your scores. I hope that helps.

Yes, Lily is right - just use one screen name and rack up those points! And if you want, you could use the second one for some other purpose...in my case, I use my other "persona" to solve cryptos without using letter frequencies. I do it occasionally just to prove that I still can

I see you're listed as the 54th ranked player for points earned so far this month. The top 100 point gatherers are listed as the current month progresses. In order to qualify for the percentage solved list and the fastest time list you have to first be in the top 50 point gatherers. That 99.8% is pretty excellent, though. I'm a bit envious

I can't believe it, I had a 99.84 success rate last month, and that would put me in 17th place; but I didn't receive an award for it! Please explain this to me, GRRRRRR!!!!

How many points did you have? Were you in the top 50? Only players who have accumulated enough points to be in the top 50 for the month are eligible for speed and percentage contests. That tripped me up the first few months, until I read the fine print.
