Someone commented that they were reluctant to hit 'enter' or 'check it' because they were not sure of one letter. I hit 'check it' all the time. But I am not concerned about speed. My question is: Is there some sort of penalty for not getting it right the first time?

Nope, just the speed issue, which automatically lowers your score. You can check as many times as you want and it won't affect your percentage. -
There is a html5 version of it and most websites let the player adjust to the user's prefrences. I don't know exactly how your code works for the youtube links.
