What does this clue mean?

I keep getting these clues and I don't understand it at all. I almost feel like it's not correct english or I'm being really dumb. Here's a couple of examples:

The four people are the person who started in 2007, "Green Avenger", "Deep Shadow" and Lyle Lucas.

The four books are the textbook written by Tara Tyne, the $29.99 title, the pre-calculus textbook and the calculus book.

You get used to the wording of clues like this after a while. What they contain is a list of all the items in such a way that they are mutually exclusive.

For example, the puzzle about textbooks says:

One book was written by Tara Tyne
One book cost $29.99
One book was on pre-calculus
One book was on calculus

And each of them is a different book.

So, you can deduce from the clue that Tara Tyne's book didn't cost $29.99, and it was on neither pre-calculus nor calculus. Similarly, the $29.99 book was on neither pre-calculus nor calculus.
