Change Clue 3 to the following: Trevor got his haircut before Matthew. Neither Trevor nor Matthew has brown hair.
That’s not quite right? I think you mean to say we should assume that Alan wasn’t served third. We already know the gray-haired man wasn’t served third from combination of clues 1 and 4.

It has to be this way, as the solution does not appear to be unique otherwise.

admin Can someone look into this? I'm trying to solve it five years later and still seeing no answer. Thanks!

Can you post a screen shot of where you're stuck? If you're stuck with $25 being either 15 or 18, and Backyard being either 12 or 18, Clue 4 should clear it up. Except for the category headers, the puzzle appears to be solvable. Watch out for the compound clues like #1, #5, and #11. There are more relations in those clues than a first glance meets the eye.

Thanks for the reassurance that it's solvable! I hadn't gotten stuck, per se; it just happened to be one of the once-in-a-blue-moon ones where I didn't line up one of my Xs in the intended row or column. Normally I'd just erase and be more careful, but with the headings wrong, and then seeing that old post where someone else expressed concern about more possibly being wrong with it, I was reluctant to start over if it was a dead end. Just my bad luck that this was the one I was careless on, I guess! Got it solved much more cleanly on my second go-through, so thanks for your help in encouraging me!
