I cannot get a single O on this entire puzzle. I go through all of the clues and get stuck. I must be missing a technique.

Can you scan the clues? I don't have that particular book.

Are you missing some Xs from clues 5 and 7? If a clue starts out like this: "Of A and B..." you can put an X at the intersection of A and B. If the end of the clue is: "... one is C and the other is D," you can put an X at the intersection of C and D. Clue 7 should give you 7 Xs. When you get all those Xs filled in, clue 2 will provide the Os you're looking for.
