  • What is the point system?

How do you measure points in the system?

  • #2
For any given puzzle size, there is a maximum value of points that are scored when you set (or tie) a record time. For example, a 4x7 easy can earn you 983 points (kind of a weird total perhaps). There is also a minimum value for solving the puzzle no matter how long it takes (and of course zero if you leave without solving). For everything in between, points are calculated based on how your time compares to the record and median times for the specific puzzle you are doing. Many 4x7 puzzles have a record time of 120 seconds, the lowest they allow (aside from a few 'legacy' solves from before the minimum was implemented). If you solve it in 300 seconds, you might get somewhere around 800-900 points. But if the particular puzzle has a record time of 180 seconds, solving it in 300 seconds might get you 900 points or more. In the latter case, if you wind up getting the puzzle again sometime later, but someone has set a 120 second record in the interim and you solve it in 150s, even though you did much better than before and even better than the previous record, you may well wind up getting fewer points than you did the first time.
    Hopefully that answers your question.
