Sudoku site update

Hi everyone -

As of today, January 28th 2026, we have released our completely redesigned Sudoku game board. It should work much more reliably than the old one, and includes new features like "Undo" and "Smart Hints". It has also been completely redesigned for use in tablets and mobile phones.

Undoubtedly there will be hiccups with the new code here and there - please feel free to post any issues you have with the new game board here, or email me at puzzlebaron@gmail.com.

Seems the competitive play is gone, and the double click to pencil a square functionality is no longer an option?

All play is now competitive play. And I've just now added code so that double-clicking inside a cell will toggle the Pencil mode on/off. You can also hit P on your keyboard to toggle Pencil Mode.

I am totally thrown by this new board. Being a bit older, change may be more difficult for me than for others, but I just can't seem to play this board. Can't get the hang of the changing shaded squares.

Is there a way to turn off automatic pencil removal? Any typo completely throws out all the preparation work (and since I am used to double-clicking for pencil at each square, I mistype quite a lot at the moment).
