that's because the dictionary this site uses doesn't support 15+ letter words, so it switched to a different one for 16-25 letter words. the two dictionaries are slightly different so sometimes only the plural or only the singular is acceptedLeave a comment:

"shan't" is a contraction of "shall not", just as "won't" is a contraction of "will not". They both need an apostrophe. "Wont" is also a word with a different meaning than "won't", also pronounced slightly differently. Unless there is a word "shant" with a different meaning to "shan't" that I'm not aware of, "shan't" does require an apostrophe.Leave a comment:

Shant. I use the word. I've read the word in many books. I don't remember it needing an apostrophe.Leave a comment:

ONI, as in a Japanese mythological monster. It surprises me that they don't have it, since they have lots of other Japanese words, such as GETA and NABE.Leave a comment:

CAFFEINATED counts, as do both DECAFFEINATE and DECAFFEINATED, but oddly CAFFEINATE doesn't count.Leave a comment:

Interesting that WESTERNIZE/S and WESTERNISE/S are accepted, but EASTERNIZE and variations are not. I guess cultural adaptation only goes one way... ;-DLeave a comment:

I'm sometimes surprised at the number of RE- words that also allow IRRE-. Yes, If I see UN- (or IN-) in front of a word, I'll try it. It doesn't always work, but enough to keep trying.Leave a comment:
