Surprising words not accepted

Since the old forum thread with this title (or something similar) didn't survive the move to the new server, I'll start a new one.

STALLER, meaning either a standard bearer or one who stalls, isn't accepted.

I tried it three times because I was so surprised. But nope, it's not in SOWPODS. It is in the 2015 update to Collins Scrabble Words, but only some of those have made it into this site's dictionary!

I am surprised that BAREN, a tool used in printmaking, is not accepted.

Yep, it was ALM that was not accepted, and a recent check of the dictionary sites indicate that it is indeed not a word...which is my bad.

I did a search on google. It does show up there as a layer of peat, I think. Could be that it's seen as a foreign word.

It accepts DOWSE, DOWSER, and DOWSES, but not DOWSERS. Hmm, weird.
