Imagine being born in nearly any other century: all the labor required to do the simplest things. What was the normal life of most individuals?

Living in a world with so many conveniences, we are bombarded with expectations. How must we spend our time to get the most out of our lives?

You examine history and wonder whether it was a meaningful life to struggle 14 hours a day just to put food on the table--while living in squalor. Your entire day was spent trying to survive on the most basic level. And then your life expectancy sucked.

"Spending too much time on..." is merely a tribute to the ease of our existence. Rather than lament the excess, celebrate it.

If something else is really more important in your life, just go do it. But each of us has to decide what is important enough to demand our time.

As for winning the monthly high scores game, it's mostly a matter of being willing to put in the time and push through the grueling, mind-numbing boredom--and picking a month when someone far better isn't on a tear. The monthly points total has been won with averages points per game well below 300. Averaging 100+ games a day for an entire month is physically, mentally and socially demanding.

But, if memory serves, there have been months with high scores of around 500,000 points winning. If you averaged 250 points a game, 70 games a day for 30 days you'd be at 525,000. If you added just 5 more games a day, the total would become 562,500. You can do it in intervals, playing 10-20 games, then do other daily tasks, then another 10-20 games. etc. It's just a matter of pacing and accumulation.

Winning is fun, rewarding and ego-boosting, but afterwards, you ask, "what next?" Pick any champion after their glory days, and wonder what they're doing at this moment to fulfill their lives. If you aren't winning at your selected endeavor, what are you doing to give your life that thrill?

What I'm saying is that every moment is important. "Not winning" should never be a reason for not enjoying the moment right now.

Enjoying the NOW, whatever you happen to be doing or whatever you may have accomplished, is an essential ingredient to happy living.

As Bugs Bunny once said, "question everything...meanwhile...I'm gonna mess with Fudd and steal his carrots."

If you feel its an addiction, try to limit your time to your own set amount per day & then stick to it. Once you're able to control yourself to that amount, I wouldn't worry about it. Its ok to have a hobby & for you, this is it. Learning new words is a great hobby & you never know, maybe someday you'll be able to use the words you learn.
