Helpful tips guide?

I’d love to have a guide of helpful tips and procedures for Battleships puzzles. Sometimes when I’ve asked for hints, the program will note “Advanced Solving”, without specifying how it arrives at its conclusion. Sometimes the hint will state what it’s doing, without describing the logic that it uses; it may state “this must be a ship segment” without showing its work.
