Miss you, Carl. Nobody, before or since, has brought science to the masses like you did. I tip my hat to you sir.

That smile, and that ability to impart knowledge to even the dummies will long be missed.

I can't remember which Cracker Jack prizes I liked. Once in Girl Scouts we went through an M&M Mars/ Cracker Jack/ Campfire Marshmallow factory, and they gave us goodies from all three, Including a bag of Cracker Jack prizes.

We were invited to a fondue party on a long ago New Year's Eve. It was very enjoyable. I bought a fondue pot that sat unused for 30 years until I gave it to my kids, who may or may not have ever used it. We have a really pretty martini set that was a wedding present. We've never used it. This is my second martini quote in two days.

This the second time today I've had a martini quote.

I think we need to do an intervention with abra. She seems to repeatedly overdo it with the martinis.

          • A martini is a very elegant drink, (as fondue is to food), and was my drink of choice when I was abusing alcohol. (I'm now more than 6 years sober.) It is also a very deceptive drink because vodka is such an innocent looking form of alcohol, and because the martini glass outlines a geometric solid known as a cone, which means that the volume of alcohol goes up as the cube (3rd power!) of the height of the liquid in the glass. This means that if you increase the height by a mere 15%, you increase the volume by a factor of 1.15**3 = 1.52, i.e. 52% more! In my drinking days, some bartenders would fill up the martini glass for me, and this may have been about double a normal sized drink. Of course, since I am an alcoholic, I never complained.

            • Kb83, I think if abra were still at her computer, she would be the first to say: Congratulations on being 6+ years sober. That is a wonderful accomplishment.

              • Thanks, Llapp, I guess I was thinking of this abra forum thread as a safe space to disclose, based on her reflected kindness and humanity. Of course, the anonymity is nice too!

One of my son's favorite movies. He rarely posts on FB and yet when he does, it seems like he can find a Bull Durham quote for any occasion.
