Placing the dots

I'm fairly new to this type of puzzle and was wondering what the best way to get the dots to place themselves after you place a star? Do I need to just get quicker or is there an easier way around the speed? Do I place the dots at all? Is there a setting I am missing that will place the dots for me?

There is no way to have it automatically place them. In case you didn't know, you can click and drag to place them, and it won't replace any stars you drag over. That makes it pretty fast. You'll get faster with practice. If you're new I wouldn't recommend not placing them.
