I had played strap on a 4x4 board coming right to left... and couldn't help but notice an available -on reading left to right.... so I naturally tried it. Considering that the dictionary used by Wordtwist seems fairly inclusive, I was surprised that it didn't score. I checked the dictionary afterwards, and it has it listed only as an alternative spelling of the same word with a dash. I guess sets of letters that form only an alternative spelling and nothing else valid don't count? Anyway, I had a laugh at finding it and typing it in.

(Edited the screen capture in case it would otherwise be a problem)

    You ain't wrong. Holy smokes!

After noticing his increased playing, and out of curiosity about how he compared to a couple of players lately who seemed...

thought I'd track how he did over the course of an abundance of games played quickly. That would provide an accurate current sample.

Started with him having played 173 games with 56,389 highest scores. He's at 895 games with 57,095 highestl scores.

That's 706 highest scores out of 722 games played! That's crazy.

I suppose the obvious question is why not 722?

You know he's playing against the heavyweights and light heavyweights who have managed to get in the 500's without the game getting recycled at 600. He can't be hitting games played by ThunderRock or probably even Estive. So, at best, he's playing games that even the very, very good players failed to score over 600--but not encountering the most elitely played games.

    And still averaging 929 pts!

And with that high of an average, he's not playing the 200, 300 point games. And probably very few 400 pointers.

So, like to see the 16 games he didn't score the highest. WTF?

(And maybe my suspicious mind misjudged a couple of new players, because knowing how good he is, that was the standard of comparison. ) Now, a 93% win ratio seems more feasible.

ps: he must be wreaking havoc on the highest score records of many very good players.

This probably belongs in another thread,

    but...

When you want to play better chess, you usually end up studying the games of grandmasters.

This board by Megaword exemplifies why studying his games has value.

Most of the time, we don't even get to see the played games of the super elite players. They tend to play for highest average score, so their played games go immediately to the recycle bin. (Have you ever seen a game played by ThunderRock?)

Anyways, not everyone is going to run into this game so, for the benefit of those interested. All those unusual words--

    free for the learning.

ps: punjabi and punjabis might also count. never tried them. might be proper nouns.

lalatan and Spike1007 I have learned so much from both of you.

To all of my fellow wordtwisters you are the best, brightest, most versatile and kind group of people.

P.S. Cheers (based on the games' preponderance of archaic Scottish words it should be with really good Islay) to all the players with a sesquipedalianistic bent!

    Thanks folkslinger!

So, if you're running on a Mac already there's no reason to install Linux that I know of. That's why Macs are pretty invulnerable to viruses.

If you have an older Windows computer you're not using and wouldn't mind playing with it a little to try out Linux, there are tutorials on the net and descriptions of all the kinds of Linux available. I used to run Ubuntu Linux on an old desktop that is now defunct and has been recycled. And I have my old laptop, which I am thinking of turning into either a dual-boot or a Linux-only machine. Dual-boot machines give you a choice when starting up: do you want to run Windows or Linus. And you choose which.
Unfortunately I do not, I've only had Macs, I used to use PCs @ work as that was their preference. So I know both operating systems. My computer hard drive is (I can't believe the time has flown by so quickly) 7 years old & my software is about 3, yeah yeah, I need to upgrade, been needing to for a while. As soon as go through all the files on my computer I'll be doing that. Anyhow it is possible to get a virus on a Mac if you download bad software, luckily its much easier to get rid of too (just delete the bad program). I don't feel comfortable w/o a firewall so I have Norton, just like any kind of insurance, it just makes me feel better to KNOW my computer is protected.

But if you have a 16 character password with mixed numbers and letters that you can remember, no one is going to hack that. How to make such a password? The first place you lived as a child, what was the street name? Then the second place. Then the third. In some order that makes sense to you, include the house number or the last four digits from the phone number and the title of your favorite song, all run together. If you can't remember the address, use the name of the town. So, mine might be "17thElliottWindemere4557/739/5052PreludeInC-SharpMinor". It's not, of course. But no one will guess that. Ever. It's 55 characters long. But something like that is something you can remember. Just a hint: pick something you can type without making a mistake over and over. And Linux is free. You can even dual-boot your computer so you can run Windows if you want and Linux if you want (if you want to make a payment or do something else dangerous).
That's an interesting way to make passwords. I guess that is if you never change it. I worked @ a job that changed the password every 45 days, so your method would be tough to follow. I did had a system though. I used flower names. There's thousands of flowers, I like flowers, they are pretty. The number part varied, maybe it was the day of the week I created it, or how many petals that flower had or whatever. Then I'd remember it for 45 days. I couldn't use the very same password for over a year afterward either, each time it had to be a fresh new one.

I really don't know much about the Linux operating system in order to switch over to it. Is it compatible w/Windows or Mac? You say I could switch back & forth @ will. How would I do that?

Failing that...bwt...google aspirational stuff (for example Lambos, etc, nice watches, holidays to exotic places), and see if that changes things? Could be fun?
