the original quote is from Ecclesiastes..to wit: "the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, etc" Mr Runyon is negating or denying the original quote, so there DOES need to be 2 "nots" in this quote.

This seems antithetical to the notion that a nation needs a Ministry of Culture or a National Endowment for the Arts to promote its aesthetic values. I'd have to Google it, but I hope he never received a grant from either sort of institution. (Of course, were he alive today, Warhol might view me as plebeian who didn't understand his deep, underlying meaning.)

Doesn't this quote seem particularly dumb, since there is one side of the moon which is always bathed in sunlight, EXCEPT during an eclipse??? I give it ten stars for possible errors, but spelling and grammar are just fine. Maybe unattributed is really Fox News Fact Checker.

Actually, the moon does rotate on its own axis giving both sides the same day/night phenomenon as Earth. Its diurnal cycle is approximately one month which is the same as its orbital cycle around the Earth. When combined the result is only one side of the moon faces Earth, yet both sides get direct sunlight for two weeks each month.

That is one of the most intriguing astrological facts I have ever known. Such precision must indicate a common motive source. Actual synchronization, over millenia!

It is the result of tidal forces (differential gravitational pulls on different parts of the moon) which stretch the moon slightly and cause a differential placement between the moon's center of mass and its center of gravity. The result is a torque that has locked the moon into its orbital period matching its rotational period. Eventually, the earth will become tidally locked on the moon (should the sun last that long.
