frigging find the keys so far today. Every board was a disaster. The mind was foggy. The fingers were all drunk and unavailable. An utter mess.

The worst playing day in months.

So, went out and tore out a sagging double-hung gate, replumbed/reinforced/reclad the support posts, made a couple of new gates with new hardware, and wondered why this was so unchallenging when...

At least, now we can get the bobcat back and forth.

sigh

Then, this morning the wife informed me one of the toilets had stopped filling . So replaced the fill valve. Most of us are prone to taking modern conveniences like toilets for granted. Until...you don't have one.

Such easy things to do.

But not playing this game.

At least, not today.

Was about to throw the computer against the wall in frustration.

Until this game. Not a high scorer especially, but there's something satisfying and rewarding about gettng green stars when the game's been played 40 times.

It's like being a gambler, losing for days in a row, then hitting a jackpot.

Just one more.

If this were Wordtwist Anonymous, I would have to confess, "hello, my name is Naboka, and I have an addiction."

It's a good thing there are gates and toilets to fix.

I may have forgotten a lot from the two years I was in med school (almost 20 years ago now), but I remembered enough to get PARACOCCIDIOIDOMYCOSIS.

Well, I wasn't going to get 132 words. But I didn't need that many. And I was fortunate; the board had only been played 7 times before. I think all my records will fall before the board is retired, but I'll be happy to hold them for a little while. My efforts on the 4x4 game seem to help me on the 5x5. Anyone else notice this effect?

Talk about a negative accomplishment.

Never run across a board with all zeros for scores. Much less one by this player.

Couldn't bring myself to play it. Cracked me up so much.

Had to let it loose back into the system.

I'd play it, just on the chance that one of the 27 ultra-rare words was 16 letters long and more than 30 points. If I see ANY 4x4 board with even one 7+ ultra-rare word, I'm going for it.

There is that.

Another 16/30 plus. Always fun.

Then again, you're at an all-you-can-eat buffet, having been stuffed on shrimp, steak, pie etc. Eating another morsel of anything has reached such diminishing returns you're no longer interested.

The oddity of encountering this board and the opportunity to do something unusual seemed more interesting than playing it. Even if fleeting.

There's always another 16/30 around the corner. I've dumped a fair number of boards after finding those and going off the rails so badly that my average score would have suffered--though I did make an exception a couple of days ago when I found a super rare chemical term that contained trans-. That board turned into a complete trainwreck, but I couldn't let it go even when I realized the final score was going to knock 5 points off my average.

The unconventional has its siren call. Probably why I got bored with common words and gravitated to the ultra-rare ones. My brain's just a bit unconventional.

"Zero" boards resulted when someone got an unplayed board but didn't enter any words before the time ran out. This was when boards were counted as played but no words had been entered. I assume that these zero boards are holdovers from that time & haven't been recycled yet.

I think some zero boards are glitches as well.

I don't have a screenshot due to the fact that "my stats" and "puzzle stats" are so far apart in the mobile version... But I just beat the total points and most words records on a board that had been played 17 times - by 1 word and 110 points.
I know I'm not in the big league with you guys, but that makes a result such as this all the more gratifying.

Congratulations! I think you just one-upped me. You're playing the same kind of game, anyway. And I'll bet Naboka heartily approves, too.

Still doesn't happen that often, but I beat Naboka's high score again. I don't want to freak you out Naboka, but it feels particularly good to get more points than you.
