  • All you need to know about literary criticism

"Asking a working writer what he thinks about critics is like asking a lamppost how it feels about dogs." — Christopher Hampton

    montyb on 2013-02-20 01:13:30
Though I've never heard any lampposts complain.

Yes, hopefully the writer is more articulate than a lamppost.

      • The ultimate editing stunt

I've seen many parodies of this famous quote, but darkyr takes it to a new level.

"No passion in the world is equal to the passion to alter someone else's draft." — H. G. Wells

        Everybody's an editor, everybody's a critic.

If someone roofies my beer, they've altered my draft.

        darkyr on 2016-07-13 06:30:18
In my draft, the part of the editor is played by the late HG Wells. In one scene, his zombified hand reaches out from his grave, red pen in hand, and starts marking up the epitaph on his own headstone.
