This forum has drawn me out of only ever playing the boards. Beating lalatan is definitely an achievement, and I often skip over boards where lalatan has the highest score (unless it's a 45+ point board :-)). Today I was trawling through a few games and for no real reason took a shot at one of those games. Having been playing on and off since at least 2012, though my account says 2017, and only have a few of these:

Sadly my hands don't let me type fast enough to ever go for a big score or tally of words, so I'm glad there's a category in which I can compete.

Come to think of it, how about "fewest words to 100, 200, 300 . . . 1000 points". So I'd have the (temporary) record for 64 words to 700+ points. And no, I couldn't go back and say that I'd take off some low point words and make it 60 words to 700+ points. I got what I got at the end of the game. I'm pretty sure lalatan has the record for 100 points already, with 3 words. But that was back before all the fancy number names happened, so maybe someone can do it in two now. Should we start a new thread for this? What should it be called? Someone will have the perfect name, and his name isn't mine.

You got me curious so I had a look in my records set file. I've played 4 different boards where 2 words totaled over 100. To get to 200, I had to play a minimum of 5 words (2 boards contained 4 words worth 196 pts). 300 pts was reached with 7 words. I was the first to breach all those thresholds since I was the first to find a 50, 52 and 54 pt word. Subsequently, I played all the variants of that word when I found the highest value word.

I'm not going to list any of those words because, as Naboka said, the spectacular soon becomes the mundane in this game. I wouldn't bother starting a thread for it since numerous players have learned and played those words.

Scores are up, but it's not a sign that the games are any easier. These new boards with the thousands of words have been a great addition to the selection! This past month's 5x5 high scores finishers saw six players with over 1000 point averages for the month...which was awesome! But I don't think it means the boards have gotten any easier. There are just finally that many more games to play which feature super high scoring boards and it's been really great!

This is 5 x 5, so I'm sure you'd surpass it. It might take you a day or two, but that would be all. It would be nice to have a records category (most points per word average) for people who played at least 20 words per board, more than 50, etc. But now we're going into "who would PLAY that?" territory.

This will be completely meaningless to most players, but it's been a personal goal: ultra-rare-word finds...

Seems that every challenge met simply leads to a search for a new challenge.

Anyway, just found 106 ultra-rare words on a board. Since it's a category without records, who knows what the most ever found has been.

As a player who for years has mostly been searching for ultra-rare words, I think your achievement is awesome and astounding. Congrats!! I doubt if any others have found over 100 ultra-rare words in a game as often as you have and/or will find in the future. You have developed the skill now so I suspect more such games will be forthcoming.

Wow, you are so right about every challenge met leading to yet other challenges! I collected 1,778 4x4 records in a month (not a personal best) just playing when I felt like it. I think most people would be satisfied with that. Yet I found myself thinking, "You could've made 2k if you played more often." Finding long words is easier and more enjoyable than it ever has been for me. But I still have this competitive drive to do more. OMG I wish there was an off switch for it some days! I used to be quite goal-driven but since I achieved all my goals, now I have "it would be nice to..." It'd be nice to reach 10k 4x4 records, to get 75k total records etc. etc. Baby steps, I have to find a way out of this competitive mode that was unleashed and then fueled years ago...

It is a memoir actually (earliest memories up to my sixteenth birthday). Seventy-three "stories" completed, four are left to do. One of which is giving me problems in how to present it. That story is on its fifth revision and I'm still not 100% happy with it. I thought I would have been done by New years eve, but what are you going to do? I also need to buy some new pencils
